Morning all,

Just wondering if anyone knows what bait is best to use in a crab and lobster pot, I have a couple of pots but never really had much luck.

Does bait depend on area, interested to hear what people are using?

Cheers

:) An old potter once told me that ox liver makes good pot bait, not sure how true that is. ;)

Best bait I've used by miles is an old turbort frame once fillets been trimmed off......drilled through the skull and hung it pot.
Lasted well over a week and caught well into double figures. ..not all takers.
Definitely top bait by my experience.

I have found a whole smallish scad very successful for both crabs and lobsters in north Pembrokeshire. It can usually be bought by the stone from fish wholesalers or direct from a professional skipper's by-catch. It keeps very well in a freezer

I like oily fish , salmon heads are good tough baits if you can get them !
Years ago they would use anything there was not a market for , wrasse , gurnard even bass way back before the TV chef hype !
Rumour has it the flounder have all gone as potbait .

The best bait is probably seal or otter !:whistling: :gtfo:
