Hey All,

I have a few days in Dartmouth in a couple of weeks time and have decided that a bit of Dab/Plaice fishing is going to be my best bet as I have access to only a small craft which can get me to the mouth of the esturay but don't think I'll get much further. Not planning any speciins but would be nice to catch something edible (keep the mother happy anyway!!) :)

I have a Okuma Hexana Spin 8ft 10-36g rod and Trio FD Spinning Reel: 40 which I plan to load with 12lb line. I was then going to fish a 3 hook flapper rig with black lug (and possibly squid) a couple of hours either side of low tide...(not sure how much weight I'll need if anyone could advise)

Simple question is....as a total newbie... amd I even close to using the right stuff for what I'm planning. Only got the rod today and to be honest it's more for Bass lure fishing but any advice would be much appriciated, even if I'm way out!!

If I'm completley off the mark what's my best approach and for what in this area with above mentioned equipment??

Many thanks in advance

Cedarwood,

Just joined the forums so only just seen your message.

I have a small boat. I fished Dartmouth last year catching mackerel and pollock off my boat in an area between a cardinal marker and an island just east of the harbour entrance.

I have never fished for flatties there though so i am afraid i can not advise. I might be going there this weekend. Did you catch anything when you tried? if so where because i have no idea where to go for flatties.
