Hi, can anyone tell me the difference between a dab and a flounder as they both look pretty much the same to me. Also is a pouting referred to as a "poor cod" or is this a different fish altogether.
cheers!

Flounder - rub you finger from head to tail - slippery
then rub you finger from tail to head - also slippery

Dab
Do the same as above - but when you run your fingure from tail to head it will feel rough.

Once you have either fish, use the above method to determine which one, then remember the shape. They are different.

Flounder can also have orange spots (so don't confuse them with plaice)

Different species me old son, they look very similar, but the poor cod has a black spot behind its pectoral fin, but in Swansea it would still be called a "blin"!

I.D Points...

Apart from the Orange spots on the Plaice they also have a bony ridge just behind the head, its a dead givaway from the Flounder.

Another slightly confusing species is the Lemon Sole, they look similar to the Dab but have an orange section under the gill covers.

Hello,

I'm Klaas from Holland.
Wen you hold a dab in to the light (look at the white site)
it looks like an X-ray. A plaice has 7 smal dods/bobles in a row on his head.
If there are none of this features (but has the same shape) it is a flounder

Kind regard Klaas
