I fished a local Cleveland venue Sunday. Casting with my beachcaster just produced a few half hearted nibbles. However, my 9 foot spinning rod with a 1 oz lead and size 6 carp hook produced 5 flatties! No biguns but you know what? This often happens, and the wee rod cast close in sometimes catches good fish! I would say - always take a light rod as well, unless it's too rough............

Happens to me a lot. Only donut when fishing light ground other wise its one of my cod beasts only. Love using light hear and small rod as an extra. Sometimes totally saves the day

In rough ground you can use a float - a bubble float is good. This works brill for Billet at South Gare in the summer.

This is true. Can catch the odd wrasse and I've had codling and pollock on the float as well as coalies. Small rods are much better. Wish they were strong enough for cod fishing lol
