Hi all,

I have an old 7HT mag thats recently developed a mag problem. Basically it can be set on ‘1’ and cast safely, it’s just running very slow and is over magged. The bearings are fine, in free spool and spun with just your thumb, it spins for 15-20 seconds and as smooth as can be.

Any ideas guys and gals? I’ve tried the Ross trick of adding another washer to pre-load the spring but no difference at all.

Cheers in advance for any advice that can be offered 👍

Check that the large ring magnet on the magnet holder hasn't come loose ... they often do. When that happens they slide round on the seating to the "full on" position and then sit there (held there by the magnetic attraction between them and the small magnet in the side plate) regardless of what position you set the mags to. To check take out the magnet holder and see if the magnet will move on holder ... if it is that then it can be re-glued (in the correct position) or replaced.
