Nice one Mike! Love 'em! Had my last of 8 fish in a short session on one today. After things had started to go quiet the Saltiga had one straight away. 2lb fish that actually engulfed the whole thing from the tail right up to past the front treble! 14cm version. One flippin greedy fish!

Well done on the fish! Llure looks very similar to the Tide Minnows that were so successful this weekend at Weymouth - but they are cheaper to buy, right? Can you confirm that this is the Saltiga Minnow at 14cm? I think Monster Tackle have them and I may have to invest!

Yes Griff. They're the ones. Monster Tackle do sell them. :sun:

Cheers for that - next stop Monster Tackle. I didn't have anything like this in my box for Weymouth (they just wouldn't be useful at most of my marks in Wales) and so I struggled (blanked in all honesty) when others were whipping them out with Tide Minnow SLDs and Zonks etc. I still prefer to fish on the top when I can, but I don't like blanking either, so I need to give myself another option.

Hello Griff,, i dont know if you've met Iestyn (mr zippy) via the forum, but he hammers the bass with the duo tide minnows around south Pembrokeshire,, so much so, that when he caught over a dozen good keepers, everyone was slagging him off for taking them back to the fishing lodge (where he works as a guide), for them to be cooked by a top chef who was there as a guest,,, Marc..

Thanks Marc - I must get some more deep water marks then! To be fair I caught well at a couple of marks in Cardigan Bay last year and didn't bother exploring much. When they were quiet this year, I've started looking further afield. So far, most places I fish are still really shallow over reefs etc - only a few feet of water - which is why I haven't really got into the diving plugs. I know they work but it does seem less fun, even if you are catching more, than working a surface lure or soft plastic. I may have to rethink my logic if I don't start catching more though!

Yeah Tim,, i don't think you can beat that moment when you see the boil next to your surface lure, and the anticipation of the take,,,

But i think in a competitive environment, you need some shallow and deep divers in your arsenal,,,

I agree 100% with both the above points! Sadly I learned the second point too late for this weekend :banghead::banghead::cry:

Griff, sorry I didn't get to speak to you this weekend. I was using a sinking Tide Minnow and had to crank hard to miss the shallow reefs, but it did get me an extra 5 or 10m which made all of the difference on day one when the fish were that far out.

Wrong lure based on the ground, but right lure on the day. I'll never work it all out but its good fun trying!

They're exactly the same lure :victory:

Cheers again for the help. Sorry we couldn't catch up and chat with everyone, but I had to scoot on Sunday as the lad had school on Monday and he was shattered as it was. In a way I was pleased to hear that StormRyder had all his fish on surface plugs (lures we have and used - Patchinko, Saltiga Popper) as we felt sure that much of the ground around Portland would be suitable for them (maybe not so much Portland Bill around the ledges perhaps). I will contact him directly and see what he was doing that we weren't - it could be that we simply weren't up early enough as the bulk of the fish seemed to be caught around sunrise? Anyhow, I hope we can catch up next year if not before!
