Ayr rite!! The ultigra has a retrieve ratio of 5.3 - 1 and the Saltist is 6.1 - 1 (The same as a 525 )

Gear ratio is only a part of the story. Also comparing gear ratios between fixed spool and multi is really academic as they work so totally differently. A saltist has a larger diameter spool than a 525 so for a given gear ration you will retrieve more like per crank with the saltist. As for the fixed spool comparison yes, modern large fixed spool reels on paper retrieve faster than most multipliers but in real life, at 2am when you're knackered and trying to get your gear back fast I'd take a saltist over any fixed spool reel. Numbers on paper sometimes just aren't real life :)

Alot has too do with much line is on the spool when you start the retreive

The Ultegra 5500XSC retrieves approx 103cm of line per handle turn. This information is taken from the Shimano Trade Catalogue. Hope this helps.
