I wasnt sure what you did out there.I thought you ran a boat and was a guide or something. You certainly know how to get the best of the fishing.Im looking for a short break soon for me and my G/f,I could be persuaded to take a trip out there.I havent been to Iceland for years.I used to get into Reykjavik sometimes.

It is worth making the point that you are not going to win any competitions in Iceland if you use light gear. Light gear is lovely and all that, but it is not for winners in this arena.

The Euro Champ's are there in 2010 and the simple fact is that most of the UK guys have no idea what they are walking into. Best advice would be pack the 'animal' hauling gear and get your back-side in the gymn for several months, or you will probably die!

yes it is the euro champs here in 2010 but it is the boat and line class champs
efsa iceland held the european species competition last year and it was won by the scottish an russians all using lighter gear
iceland did not even finish in the top 3

Well done Skippy, great result for you. I can't believe the skipper allowed his boat to run out of fuel, this is a disgrace. Are you on the same boat tomorrow?

The light gear does work in Iceland comps when it's the species based competitions, however a lot of their comps are based on weight only.

Try hauling up three 7 kilo plus cod at a time for six hours and you'll realise why the locals use the heavy rods and harnesses!! It's not unusual for daily bags of 300 kilos to be landed.

Yes skip, in time and with a little more experience you'll learn. It's all about horses and courses, but you have to run a few different ones to realise the best other options. Oh, and as the Bigman said when we bumped into you last time on the beach at Keflavik: "There's boat anglers, and there's winners".

Check out this recent film. It wasn't a comp' so we could afford to mess around with lighter gear :bye1:
