Because of the way my fixtures have fallen this month I have fished Deal for the last 3 evenings and edited highlights are as follows:
Monday 7.30- 11.00 - Fished on the top deck of the pier until it closed, never had a bite moved to the groynes for the last hour and managed 3pout and a flounder. The comp was won with just over a pound the biggest fish was a mackeral.
Tue 6.20-9.30 - Lower deck of the pier was allowed so most people fished their, nothing was coming up casting out so it was down the legs for pout top weight was just over 15 pound. The pout went away when it got dark and very few fish caught in the dark apart from a couple of stray dogfish biggest fish caught was a dog of about 1.25 pound.
Wed 7.00 -10.00- Fished in the groynes near harold road, having realised there was very little about it was out with the quiver tip rod and the tiny hooks, ended up with 2 sizeable eels , also had undersize eels, pout , whiting and a really tiny thornback. The winner had a red mullet and 4 pout, biggest fish was the red mullet of about 12 ounces.

Conclusion , fishing is poor at the moment but thats usual for August. Where are the Mackeral, Scad and soles.

Good report Dave, was your trip in the groynes near Harold Road 7-10am or 7-10pm? I am probably going there Saturday day, somewhere along the beach, possibly where you went, its going to be very high tides. Do you think there much chance of anything there during the day? What range, baits were you using?

Cheers,

Will :fishing1:

Fished 7-10 in the evening. The water is very clear at the moment so hgh tide in daylight is likely be poor. I fished very close in about 10 yards out or less for most of my fish the water has a bit of colour at that range especially at low water and as the tide rises. Had most of my fish on maddies but small ragworm would be a good alternative.
Good Luck, if you go.
