Heres something I found really useful so thought Id share it on here.
With the autumn and winter approaching, I wanted something on on my rods that would really help me to get a better grip in cold and wet weather so heres what I came up with. Hope its of use to some of you.
You will need something reasonably thick and flexible like chunky strimmer gut (I used plastic coated washing line), leccy tape and shrink tube.
First, cut the length you require for a grip from whatever you have chosen. For shorter grips you will need somewhere around a foot, and for longer grips, something like 16-18 inches.
Chamfer both ends by cutting with scissors. If you cut your line square, the square edges will push through the shrink tube and tear it.
Stick one end onto your rod butt with the chamfered end facing out toward you with leccy tape (I have found that this holds the line to the rod far better than sellotape).
Coil around the butt where you want your grip to go and stick down the other end with the chamfer toward you again.
Slip your length of shrink tube over the line and heat it.
I finished the edges off with black leccy tape, but you can whip it if you wish.
Ive found that these grips work really well for me, and I dont have huge hands, so they should work for most. You can space the coils of your line out if you want, as I have, or bunch them closer together for a more compact grip. If you do this, dont forget that you will need a longer length of line.
