Fishfinder, you must be talking about the West Pier, you walk past Rogers Tackle & Bait Shop out along the concrete road to the end. Best to fish the beach side rather than the river, the dredger is currently making the river crap! I fished there last night, loads of small whiting but nothing of any size, saw only one whiting worth keeping all evening.
I was told that the Docks Board are charging £25 to fish the West Pier only, when the charge for fishing West, East, & Queens Dock Breakwater was only £26! They can go & take a flying ****, for their £25.
The fishing was good off the West about a month ago, but like everywhere its gone off the boil now.

Apparently they do have a "purge" every now & again, especially when the whiting & mackerel shoals are in & the place is crowded, or when some brainball catches the dredgers props or the Pilot boat or similar, then they come over checking.
On the last occasion they inspected, of the 70 estimated anglers, only 2 had permits, which the holders promptly threw into the water as useless, when the other 68 were allowed to carry fishing without even a caution!
Next year I will get one, its only £5.25 for OAPs ha ha ha, & I will tell "the man" that the rest of you haven't got one!!!
