Me and andy were out on his boat lastnight feathering for macky off the dodman. We were just starting a drift when we heard screaming from the bottom of the cliffs on motoring over we found an angler who asked for any jumpers/coats we had to keep his mate warm cos his mate had fell 50ft down the cliff,i managed to chuck him my coat and jumper whilst andy kept the boat from smashing on the rocks, the lad had contacted the coastguard and we circled around until the helicopter came and we directed them to the spot where the lads were. If your reading this,i hope your mate is ok!!!!! Just to add, that the place they were fishing wasnt the couple of spots people fish on there as the lad said he had to beat a path through the undergrowth.

Well done to you and your mate Tommo! I used to fish the Dodman a lot years ago and cant quite work out where they were trying to get to. We used to have to clear a path to fish Penveor point, which looks across to Vault Beach, but cant see how that guy fell 50 feet, unless they strayed off the path by accident.:doh: cheers Steve.

Hi mate...got ropes n carabenas and staked out top of cliff and went down to get the gear today with the help of couple mates....ye was well off the normal track.....kev has no injurys to legs or ribs as firts suspected just badly bruised how ever after 3 operations to rejoin tendoms etc there still not sure that he will regain full use of left hand, specialist surgery either tonite or mow should hopfully sort out the problems.

not sure what gear you gave to us mate but didnt brave it enough to go all the way down so clothing was left, the tackle was up near the top of cliff by all means reply with what we had and i will repay the cost for new.

as i said before risks are taken to try and fine so called new and unfished ground but at the end of the day is it worth taking the chance just for a fish? my personal opinion now is clearly no!

thanks again to all that helped im sure kev and my self owe people alot of thanks especially the boys and girls of culdrose!

safe fishing....

Wishing Kevin a swift recovery, he is lucky to have had help so close to hand. Given where he fell from he could so easily have been killed. I nearly went fishing with them myself last night, so it hit home even harder when I heard the news.

This is something that could potentially happen to any of us that like to explore the rugged Cornish coastline. Both anglers involved are very experienced, and on another day the same slip may have caused Kevin nothing more than a bump on the backside (I can't remember the last time I haven't slipped on the grass at least once on the way down to some marks). Many of us are guilty of sometimes not properly considering the consequences of losing our footing at some of the more inaccessible spots, I guess incidents like this remind us of the importance to risk assess every step before we decide to take it!

Probably not.and we'll never know if that elusive mark we found on google maps or out walking the dog has ever been fished? The buzz of fishing is the temptation, that 'secret'mark what holds the big fish where no bugger has caught yet, still something tells us ''we gotta have a go or we never know'',, eh.

Hope for a swift recovery for the Kev man, well done to the c-fish and the Helston copter crew.

Lesson to us all,, no...Just reminds us at cost the dangers for a bitt'a pleasure.

looking at that picture and recollecting my holidays in cornwall it must be tempting for you people who have fished these type of marks for a long time ,to try to access new places to fish..that is very dangerous fishing and must take some balls, take great care everyone, and go about things in a safe manner....and a speedy recovery to the injured person.

Wow, this thread has literally put a shiver up my spine.

I'm glad that the guy isn't more seriously injured. It also sounds like everyone pulled together to help, which is a great accolade to those involved.

I'm glad the guy isn't more seriously injured and wish him a speedy recovery from his ops.

Richard.
