hi.....today i was at a loss..as i had run down my camera batteries..so sorry no piccys today....

today i was determined to push on with the hull cleaning....no superviser chris M today...so i was on my todd....i was starting to clean the scum and staining off the hull above the antifoul line..were she had sat down in the water..a scrubber and cif..was making no headway......so i thought maybe i should bleach it.......
at this point the resident..master mariner came by to see how i was doing..he said..you wont get it off with that mate...`mmmm tell me about it`..
he disappeared for 5 mins and came back with a tub of liquid and some very fetching rubber gloves.....mmmmmmmmmmmm...he....proceeded to stroke the liquid on the scum,,,and before my eyes it just vanished...and revelled a glowing white hull..i was astounded...i asked him what it was..all he said was `acid`...oooh!!!!

he left me the tub and went on with his work..i spent 2 hours cleaning the scum off..and wow...its a different boat...!!!!!

i then took off the footings to the bench seats that was on the deck...and sealed the holes..

and then i maneged finally got off the keel band and after a struggle with all the offending screws...a fair bit of water came out of the screw holes..

my final job off the day was to remove the corroded and eaten away anode..i need to replace this...are there different grades of them..?

thanks for reading..andy

Anodes need to be Zinc for salt water.

When you fill the holes, drill them out a tiny bit bigger and put a slight countersink on them. The Plastic Padding epoxy you mentioned is good stuff for this job. Make sure everything is clean and dry, treat yourself to a bottle of acitone, or some panel wipe from the local car paint people.
big thanks paul..i will do as you say...i might be a bit of a noddy..but im determined to put that to rest with the renovation of this boat...the jobs will be done propley..

kindest regards andy..

I guess your magic cleaner was oxalic acid. It's a mild acid but poisonous, the same stuff as found in rhubarb leaves. It’s often mixed into a gel with wallpaper paste to help hold it in place for a short while before rinsing off.

Y10 is Oxalyic acid in a gel. Perhaps the Ebay stuff is the same, but cheaper.
Comes in a powder form to be mixed with water...Y10 sticks a bit better but 3 times the price!!

I put in one of those pump up sprayer and put it on that way...then rinse off.
