There is a HDS gen1 update on the lowrance website to take your machine to version 68 of the software posted in 2012. Co onto the support page , click all updates and scroll down. I think instruction on how to do it are included but you just download the file put it on a card, card in the plotter and start up .
Electronic Updates
We have a Lowrance HDS-5m chart plotter, & a Condor 340C fish finder on the boat, the Lowrance has an SD/MMS slot to accept SD updates, & the Condor 340C has a data port to accept a data cable. I have been on both of the relevant websites to look for any updates/amendments for them, but I cant find any?
Could it be that they are now both too old to be receiving updates from the manufacturer's (this I can understand as technology changes) but does anybody know IF there have been any updates on either machine since they were introduced?
They work perfectly well, but I was wondering if there had been any updates issued, & if so any idea where I could get hold of them, its always nice to know that the "smoke & mirrors" stuff is up to date.

Vic, I had the same lowrance twin setup on my last boat. I went through the hassle of trying to update the hardware but what different it made I neither have bothered. In other words just roll with what you got
Thanks for replies guys, I was sort of expecting not to find much of an improvement via updates. I did a similar exercise on my own boat with my Navman, & basically all it did was alter the position of the SWIGG by about 1 metre, & the diffuser buoys by about the same amount. Maybe in the Global scene it would have made a big difference, but I doubt Mumbles Belle will need to be concerned with any changes beyond Oxwich Point, so I will concentrate on doing other "housework"Vic, I had the same lowrance twin setup on my last boat.
