Hi Fellow Anglers of Dyfed.
I will be travelling across to Little Haven nr St Davids from Barry over the Bank Hols (31st May) I would have liked to go fishing at dusk to some good marks in the above locality (if I am correct this will be low tide) I would like to do some lure fishing for Bass or mackrel. so are there any really good marks for this or should I stick to some bait fishing at dusk and try the lure fishing at Higher tides during daylight hours.
Map references for marks would be greatly appreciated although if someone can describe how to find these places that would do fine.
p.s Does anyone have a web address to find the local tides.

cheers

Give county sports or milford angling supplies a ring they should be able to help you. Word of advice dont buy your fresh bait from county sports as its not good quality, but there tackle selection is second to none in the county and there advice is usually spot on. You can reach them on the following numbers:

Milford Angling Supplies 01646 692765
County Sports 01437 763740

Also try Martin Thompson at Anglers Corner on 01646 698899 as his advice comes from experience as he is a keen match and pleasure angler.

Pick a rock - any rock.
I'd suggest getting your Ordnance Survey map out and having a little explore. Suggested areas are north of Broadhaven beach (just up the road from your accomodation), the Dale area, St Brides bay (the little one at the south of the big St Brides Bay, Nolton Haven (follow coast path on north side of the inlet), and any other areas of rock you can find under shallow water.

As for bait try Angler's Den in Haverfordwest (01437 760045). I don't recommend County Sports - most serious local anglers avoid it at all costs (for various reasons).

Send me a PM for more up to date info.

Hope that's of help,

Rhod.

Hi Rhod is anglers den the new tackle shop at the top of twon near Natwest bank? If so whats it like as I havnt had chance to have a look in there. Over the last few months there have been a few new tackle shops opening. Is there a gap in the market do you think or have they cottoned on to the fact that the area is quite popular for holiday makers to fish?

Yes that is the one. The shop is ok in terms of bits and pieces. If you need more specialised tackle I'm sure they'd be able to order it for you. Their frozen baits are in better shape than all the other shops I've been to locally and they do get decent lug and rag.

The impression I have is that the lads running it used to holiday in Pembs and have leapt into a reasonably congested market. Myself and a number of other anglers have been along to check them out as soon as they opened, and some of us shopping there have expressed our hope that they drive County Sports fishing dept. out of business. They are friendly guys who want to help and not to rip you off.

Cheers,

Rhod.
