Hi all,

over the years ive always "booked" time off with her in large batches i.e. fishing a whole saturday, or a six hour session on a friday evening etc...

2013 i took a completly different approach- blessed with living and working by the sea i fished when i could an hour here or there taking into account tides and swell size, wind direction at different spots, i probally fished 15hours a week in little bursts around work/school drop offs social/surfing commitments and kids bedtimes!, you guessed it, it payed off! last year was a good year! (for me)

"learn by it" (Mark333's Moto?) it works! of course its going to work, you get used to different spots when and how they produce, ha! sometimes weve been known to rock up somewhere and stake it out an hour early just waiting for the tide to drop/push etc...

some of the local spots have turned into abit of a "Newquay sitcom" with some right characters (a few on here!!) doing exactly the same thing! its hilarious!! 3 blokes sat in seperate vehicals all waiting for something to happen..... dodgy? surfers do it all the time... not what your all thinking by the way! ha!

so im sure 90% of lure bass anglers do the same thing, but my real question is- does anyone keep a diary? im sure you do, i wish i had last year! its all engrained in my mind, but id also like to know how many hours af fishing result in how many bass! im sure theres even a publishable paper there somwhere?

i will, for sure, be keeping a diary this year and will be keeping a careful note on the hours put in v fish caught!

I LOVE IT! cant wait come on Bass!!

cheers, J

Used to , but now my tide books are my diarys .
I work out dates /tides I want to fish as soon as I get it ....
Then I put how many I caught by side of date ...a code for where I was ..wind etc ...
Then add um up end of season ..
Best ever week 175 lol (5 days )
Best ever season 1500 plus .(was taking on a boat , fished hard near killed me )
Last season plus 600 .. About 9 bass a trip average (low , blamed it on the weather )
Average season 600 / 1000 .
Best 5 hrs a good few times 55 .
Average a bass ever 45 mins , but maybe less if you don't add walking , traveling to mark etc .. All time out for session .
Would like it to average every half hr or less ,
Which I think mono man is at , but he lives there and fishes every day .
If I could fish every day I think it helps cause you can build a pattern of fishes
Movements IMHO ....

this is amazing, considering youve said you live something like 45min from the sea?, mate total respect! i can only dream of these kind of catch numbers... it does make me wonder about the amount of bass down here compared to the south coast, or is it the swell that we have, many days/spots just become unfishable due to swell size...the bass are there! but it is just not fishable? im humbled!

1hr 20 from my fav spot , one way ....
Don't be humbled , been at it a very long time , and can do dawn till dusk if I'm hungry for it , and up to 4 marks in a day ...
It's all about knowing your own grounds well ...
Still not done 10 in 10 casts ,,
9 in 11 is best I could muster ....
Would love to do ten in ten on a lure ...
ALWAYS somewhere to fish here ...
Even on a east I found a little spot , but don't like off shore winds in any way shape or form .
More bass in Cornwall for sure .
Love fishing all round there in the camper .
Find the south coast better for size , but north coast great for numbers ...
Lovely lovely area you live ...
How long you been at it .
After 1300 to 1500 lure trips your notice an increase in your catches lol ...
My first few years were way worse than a lot of newbies do on here ...

in all honesty ive been fishing for bass with bait on and off for about 12 years lure fishing has come in to it in the last 7yrs? maybe 8yrs if you count the half hearted attempts, ive ditched bait completly last year, i cant weigh up the expendture and loss of life (crab/worm/eel) for no return, the protein conversion is just not acceptible in my honest opinion... ive given the peelers a real break in the last 2 years! ha... the money ive saved is amazing.... but its probally been invested in plastic.... without wanting to open a can of worms (no pun intended haha)

well next time your down in the camper theres a few of us that would definiatly do with a lesson in "catch rate v hours" im not joking, Mark, im not taking the ****, im due up your way for a wedding over the summer if you fancy a catch up?

Everytime @Mark tells me his figures I am just blown away by them.
He catches bass like I catch mackerel on feathers on a good day!
55 in five hours. 9 in 11 casts.
And all because he knows the conditions and fish behaviour.
It is mega, mega impressive, and worthy of huge respect.
I think I would struggle to get 9 in 11 in a fish farm!
:)

Lol it's years spent on bait before that helped , soon found a pattern on when and where big bass turned up in what conditioned .
Caught first 55 on bait , but that was free lined rag worm , I could not believe my eyes , middle of the day , 6 quids worth of rag , sometimes bunched rag , just drifting off in the flow , blew my mind ....
Needless to say great spot on lures softs ...

Funny you say the mac thing , my next door neighbour loves mac , he's 79 I think , I always try and bring him one back a trip , if I don't get one by catch
I'll spend 10 / 15 mins with a wedge or small metal , it's very very hard for me to catch one lol ..so would agree find it far easier to catch a bass ......

Ps it's not just me , I think Joe has come down had 36 plus fish , 15 last year in under an hr ,
A guide had 11 , didn't know one end of a rod from the other .
Fish Dorset , ( Richard ) get great numbers , and did over 30 once to my 20
Which hurt lol ....but they were totally tuned into a lure he had ,
We share info when out together , and on some days if you don't have what they want in your box , your going to struggle ....
Areas , half mile or less apart , can want totally different lures ....
It's all fun .....
I might keep a running total like a few do on here this season, but it seems to pee people off ,
My great mate Malc has just done 122 in his first full lure season , in a season with terrible conditions ,,, I want him to double it , or pass 300 plus this season ....practice practice practice , time on the water , and learn by it , good or bad .

Well I can beat that!
A bass every 29

I reckon you're late, buddy!
12th April last year must be about 12th march this?
I have counted just about 4 frosts this year
Think I will have to chuck a few the weekend if weather us nearly there.

Can I ask, Mark, do you fish the south coast, or the North?
Or both?
Sorry mate , do you mean Cornwall ...
Yes both , but would prefer south coast , and I tell her that when she books camper holidays ..
We don't really have a north coast here
But I go any where , happy to do couple hundred miles in a day for bass fishing
No bother

Mark i know you hate pollock but once i did do 25 pollock in 25 casts.. yer i know not bass, but was certainly amusing.
It amazes me that anyone would hate pollock. The first take of a big one sends my adrenalin into heart attack levels every time.
I have had takes I would swear blind were double figures, only to reel in a 2-3lber.
Is there a harder hitting fish for their size in our waters?
