Gonna get a fixed spool reel to use with braid from the shore, looked at loads online ,local shop only has a couple on display so can`t get a feeling of physical size of some of the reels I have been considering and whether they would be upto the job in hand.I have a shortlist ,some of which are described as big pit reels and don`t know whether these would be suitable for beach fishing.
Reels on my list are as follows,
Daiwa Emblem ,5500 size,
Daiwa Emcast Evo.
Penn Surfblaster,
Shimano Aerlex 8000 XSA.
Daiwa Emblem Spod.
Anyone use any of these and can reccommend them or something else.

I have the Shimano Aerlex 6000, which I believe is the same as an 8000 with a smaller reel capacity. Absolutely brilliant reel for the money, and i've not seen or heard any complaint from other users.
I bought Shimano 8000s (1 Aerlex and 1 Biomaster) about 12 years ago and they've never let me down in any weather on any beach. Have caught fish up to 15lb on both.

Thanks for the replies ,more would be welcome.
I bought a combo deal which included a 750 Surfblaster ,it didnt last long before i
got the 850 version which i used for a few years without any problems, I then tret
myself to a Shimano Ultegra 10,000 xsb ..... A fantastic reel that still runs as smooth
today as the day i first bought it, ..... A bit pricey but to me it was worth every
penny. ...... I mainly use multipliers now but it still gets its fair share of time on
the beach, now and again night fishing and always carried as a very reliable backup.
Ive used two emcast 6000 with braid the last 2 years cant fault them
just bought a secondhand emblem a5500x and cant wait to get another soild bit of kit with a monster spool
Get yourself a Shimano ultegra 5500 or 10000 xsb depending on what you want to use it for. Now that the new range is out you should be able to get them for close to a £100 brand new or £50 for a good second hand model , only used Shimano so can't comment on other reels won't let you down
Have alook at a Grauvell zenith zs5000 a superb reel it comes with a dedicated braid spool
I think there is a review on planetseafising website
shimano aerlexs 8000 size ,,had mine about 15yrs now ,,been used abused ,built to last ,,never a problem ...must admit not been used much last couple of yrs as into multipliers
As a 30+ year carper who's new to the beach, I'd say be careful choosing Daiwa. Some very good reels in their range (had the same Daiwa Tournies for about 15 years) but some are slightly delicate and are fine if you like wrapping them in padded cases after every trip and fishing them with mats underneath to protect them from the rain splashing them; useless for the beach (and any proper fishermen). Shimanos all seem to last forever - use a pair of very old and well used Biomasters on the beach that I got for a song off a mate. From your list I'd definately be choosing the Arelex's.
Looks like Shimano is the way to go,thanks lads.
