nice catch! what a surprise!

brill are smooth, turbot have bumps on their backs - brill are more oval, turbot more diamond shape - id say thats a baby turbot.....

Hi,

Yeah definitely an unusual catch for me. I don't remember if it was smooth or not. Turbot and brill look so similar when they're small.

If its a turbot then its a pb for me haha

Used to use spoons on the harbour walls with single hooks and tipped with harbour ragworm to catch flounder, plaice, and a few other species via slowly reeling it in. I would often see the fish following the spoon, then dash back to the depths last minute. It was good fun in my youth. Good catch on the turbot, think they are predatory in nature.

yeah i used to catch founder on baited spoons, but i thought it was more to stir up the silt - no seems flatties are very predatory and will take a shiney fish imitation as well as worms.

new challenge for the winter - flattie on spinner only.......
