My Neighbor Julian and I have been restoring our water front shore line for ten years now. What was once mud and eroding water front is now an amazing "Living Shore Line" ! This project was all built by hand over 7 years by just Julian and I. We purchased the majority of the shell and raised our own oysters to seed the reef. We own the point of land, almost 2000 feet has been restored and we are now working on our coves.
This all for restoration and study, Julian was instrumental in getting this started and encouraged me to do the same years ago when I moved here. It is our way of giving back to the Chesapeake Bay. We own all of the property and also lease some off shore grounds from the state of Virginia.
The area is under video surveillance to help deter poachers. I also have a friend that raises Oysters through Aquaculture nearby, that is the pictured skiff. It will always be a work in progress and a learning experience, it is great to see the fruits our labors with thousands of oysters that have naturally struck on the shells that we have placed. Just thought I would share some pictures I took yesterday at low tide of our progress, The goose was nesting in the marsh grass in my backyard.
