As far as I'm aware any type of fishing with a net requires a permit from the local fisheries committee. Would I be correct in assuming a fyke net is some kind of trap net as used for eels?

yes it is like a tennis court net with two keepnets one at either end
i will look into how to obtain a permit and how much it will cost if i can get one.

The licence details should give you that info.

Nothing like catching your own fresh bait. Good luck. :)
