At a guess I would say price.

There was someone flogging rip-off Gemini kits on ebay a couple of years ago but Gemini (quite rightly) seem to have got them pulled.

There's also more than a few rip-off Gemini links available on that site. I made the mistake of buying some and they are bloody dangerous, so much so that I now use them as weak links for rotten bottoms, they pull straight so easily.

there is a guy that sells them on ebay every now and then you just have to keep an eye out for them, but to be honest the Gemini stuff feels better quality but they both function the same,i have used both and to be honest its a piece of plastic so i am not sure the quality issue that arises with swivels and links applies here ,must admit though if Gemini stuff was reasonably priced there would,nt be a market for copies

even cheaper still just cast your own leads from scrap lead ,
you can customise the wire you put in them , simple , i have not shop bought a sinker for over ten years , ive enough lead weights to sink a battle ship , and often give them away when there a bit chipped !

****

Its basicly the price, all I want is the plastic nose cones but you dont seem to be able to buy them on their own unless you want the plain ones.
Ive always made my own leads but the gemini is so versitile and one mould makes loads of different sizes.
I use 2 or 3oz break outs quite a bit and cant find a mould that will do these so I was going to knock up a few of the gemini's but at @£7 for ten "kits" its a bit strong when you consider making my own breakout 5oz probably costs about 10p each (the lead was free)
