im gonna try spinning/lures for pollack tommorrow morning,
1st proper attempt. i know im probably too early,
so im guessing another blank but i can only try.

heading up north east , and try a few locations.

Tell us how you get on mate, hopefully you can put all the tips to good use. There should be a few pollack and coalies around as i had a few last week over the south west coast, including a few decent fish to nearly 4lb. I can't get this weekend as i decided to go to the footy today (a good choice as we won 3-2!), but work have asked me to go in tomorrow and i need the overtime. Did you get your braid spooled up in the end correctly mate? and which lures did you buy?

you should do alright if you find an area thats holding a few , had a good session on them last week from the shore fish up to 6lb , leadhead and jelly worm being the best :clap3:

For some reason those cheap 10p black and pink tailed jellies seem to do all the damage? Have found the Fladen and Tempest eels good last year though, as are the 4'' Tempest shads.

Yeah, those tempest eels look good. Gonna have a few myself

They work a treat mate, Fladen also do they in blue and green in 4'' and 6'' lengths for £2.99 for 10. I have had some of my better fish on them, also taken a couple of unexpected bass on them too which is a bonus.

just back and had my first ever spinning session...damm arm is gonna be like popeye's tommorrow lol.

anyway , after good helpful advise and wee bit reading i decided too go bright and early, up at 5am lol...60 mile one way trip and set off too the rocks.
i read that pollack seem too feed best at dusk and dawn , so i was hoping for a quick knock on the rod. so i fished and fished , changing areas, different colour jelly worms , jelly sandeels , shads etc .

after standing in the showery rain for 5 hours i finally got a fish on , smiling from ear too ear ...hoping it was my first ever pollack.

" nope " only a coalfish, but was good too get summit to save the blank.

but that got my spirits up again and continued , around 30 mins later i got a better take, got it too the side and said , and thought what a braw sized coalfish, but as i looked i noticed the lateral line was way different , then noticed the lower jaw ...yip my first ever pollack :clap2:
not big for a pollack but must have been a couple o pounds.

while i was releasing the fish i noticed a sleeping seal , cheeky bu66er was on the next rock lol...so i got too within a few inches and held camera at arms lenght and clicked ..quickly incase it woke up lol.. so 1 pic then i left it too snooze and went back and collected gear..

enjoyed the wee session and was even better as i got my first ever Pollack.

hello , aye i think i done everything ok,loaded 20 lb braid again, connected onto a 30 lb leader ( for the 3 oz weights ) then too a 3 way swivel direct too weight and a 4 foot trace off 15 lb clear , and jelly sandeel .

seemed too do the trick eventually .

Well done mate! Your first pollack and a decent coaley to boot. I see you used the Odessa how did you get on with it? Are those the Jelltex eels aswell mate? I have used them before off the boat and they are damn good. Somedays you can switch between all the methods i have told you about and catch fish on all of them which makes it a really interesting session. All i can say is that its going to get better soon, then you will hopefully get many more pollack and some specimen sized fish.

Did you read my PM? Try the float fishing next time if your arms start to get tired, although the rod is light it starts to tire your arms out after a while. Floats are pretty cheap at around £1.50, although i have found most of mine washed up onshore and simply re-used them or repainted the tip. If you want even better pollack sport then you could try using a carp rod or light spinning rod. I use either a Daiwa Powermesh 2.5lb t.c. carp rod or a Nash Hooligun 2.75lb t.c. carp rod with a Shimano 6000 GTE and they are a lot of fun for the pollack as well as for catching big wrasse too!

Thats a good fish Davy. The black and pink ones take fish well, but i can't really work out why as they dont really imitate any bait fish? Other good lures such as the Tempest shads and holographic eels look very lifelike. I see that Abu Krill lures also look a lot like a small sandeel. Why the black firetail lures work is beyond me all i can think is that they look like lugworm perhaps and stand out well. The Berkley replicate rag worm i have tried did not seem to work to well for pollack though, and they would surely replicate them better i thought?

Quality fish all round. Without naming specific marks can anyone tell me where to fish for pollack in general terms (ie rocks along east coast or east nuek etc). I appreciate that specific marks are sometimes kept a secret but any general info would be appreciated.

its a FISHTEK jelly sandeel,

ps Blenny, im not sure where pollack can be caught locally around East Neuk,im sure Codheadbob may know as he has great local knowledge about this area.
