Looking for a good strong low diameter mono for over all shore fishing ? Preferably will cast a long way and create enough confidence to bring in decent sized fish ? Thanks.

Been using awa shina reflector line for years. Very good, strong. 0.34 is about 35lb strain. Gives that bit if confidence if snagged or goid fish. Casts well and settles quick on a multiplier. Used to get from uk hooks but think its ebay now. Browny/green colour 600m

Interesting mate, I have learnt something today. Did know mono glugs up water! Does the water stay in the mono, or it drys out when the reel is not used.

Sorry mate, I am still not following,

so the mono takes in water, and the knots are weaker when they are the water , because the mono has started to degraded.

how long does it have to be in the water to degrade, and by what percentage does the mono degrade by. I know sunlight degrades the mono badly.

i dont think it degrades just seems weaker once been in water .

when i used to use mono especially reduced dia stuff i always found if i snagged and lost the gear it always was a bitch to get a strong leader knot again , one of the reasons i ended up using copolys .
And no it werent my bad knot tying .:confused2::eek::nutswinger:, have you ever found the same ?

I recently got into making acetal lures and theres a lot of that which is also hydroscopic , youd never think a rock hard bit of plastic would absorb water either

Lol, I didn't want to say anything about your knot tying

I havnt had a problem before, but my knot tying is a bit Heath Robinson.

It's very interesting and didn't think plastic would do that.

What lures are you making mate? Sounds interesting, I am s goldsmith, so for fun I have started making few lures in silver.

I always thought that was because it got stretched past it's limit and doesn't return anymore so therefore it loses it's stretch and becomes brittle just my idea on it I've had several lines do this after pulling out of a snag I was unable to tie a leader knot without it snapping when tightening it down.

seems plausible however i can tie the knots ok with copoly after breaking off so i always assumed it was the water weakening it,
Does beg the question after a pull for break is your line now ruined especially if it dont knot well ??

I always thought lines absorbed water to some degree, which is why years ago it was often recommended that they were soaked before putting onto a reel. Guess they expanded a tiny bit and then dried tight on the spool stopping the lower coils of line from getting slack when wet and line bedding into it??

Maybe not the case with modern co-poly
