2 rods for the session both with 2 hook flappers with booms. And 2 ounce plain leads. My bait was maddies! So baited up and sent them out. And almost instantly my first first fish was landed. A small pout of 3"

So he was returned, that was quickly followed by a nice little codling.

Good session. It's interesting to see you had the more successful night there and you used booms. I think that sometimes, they can be seen as " not the done thing". I remember as an 80's child, my father taking me fishing & all my rigs had booms - to stop tangles.

However, am i right in thinking they do add movement & attraction to the bait as the booms are moved by the current.

I guess the rig isn't as streamlined for casting distance with them but probably stopped you casting beyond the fish, which others there may have been doing.

Thanks for another report Wrighty, always an interesting read.

Cheers for replies guys, but instead of bunching 6,7,8 at a time i was simply threading 1 maybe 2 worms up the hook and it worked much better. Plus all the fish bar the flounder were caught tight against the wall.

Am I missing something here?
When did a catch of undersize fish become a good session?
Have we come to accept that undersize fish represent a good catch, Am I the only one who considers a session where you catch nothing but undersize fish a blank.Or are fish that are too small to keep now accepted as counting towards a good result, they aren't acceptable anywhere else in the country.

Excelent fishing, report and pictures particularly the visual famous venue. I think you ve stolen the pae73's luck as well to catch many codlin. I just had a flattie from caswell last time and missed few bites. Couldn't report due to bussiness. Khan

Well Chris....at this time of year when there is not a lot around then yes I would class a few undersized fish a good session.
In a month or so when the fishing really picks up then I would have higher expectations....but until then catching what you intended to catch is good enough...........

Not much about? Do you read the catch reports that you put up Richy?
This is not a pop at anyone, just disbelief that people really think that catching undersize fish is a good session.

But that would mean that most of my LRF sessions are not good.

I think you're missing my point Richy, a session where you catch undersize fish and nothing else is not a good session unless you actually target undersize fish.If you go out to be satisfied with undersize fish then I really can't see the point in fishing, I have been out 3 times this week and caught over 150 undersize fish including whiting, flounder, and dabs.I only fished for 3 hours at a time so thats an average of 5o fish per 3 hour session. It's still a poor session as I didn't catch anything of takeable size.In the stated opinion of people who have replied to this thread I have had a marvellous couple of trips, can't see it myself but if people are happy in the belief that catching undersize fish is the top of their game , who am I to object? I just like to fish with a bit of reality .
