I use a baiting needle passed through the soft parts, and then through the hard part in the middle of the head. Use a bit of elastic if you want to present it a bit tidyer, i don't always bother and it dosn't make much of a difference. I usually use a size 2/0 or 3/0 hook. Depending on the size of the crab, i sometimes break the big claw and a few legs off it. I've had a few Bass and a shed load of doggies on this bait, and it seems to be best when the crabs have been out of water, in shell in an onion sack in the shed for a few days. They stink, but they seem to attract every doggie for miles. Hope this helps.
