Been down earlier today, had an hour of fishing when I spotted couple of bods with hi-viz clothing trying to get the attention of myself and the 3 lads fishing. Both of them turned out to be security men working for P.D. Ports, they had a female P.C.S.O. with them. Asked us all to leave, notifying us that they were pretty sure that the new gates would be locked and would remain so.
Looks like the pier is closed for good, i've mentioned this today to a friend who is a parish councillor, asking why no money can be spent repairing it!!!
I've seen money spent on replacing promenade railings year in and year out, the removal of a supposedly dangerous bridge in the paddling pool, seashell seats and nice blue lights fitted from the Block Sands to the Fish Sands, plaques depicting the Heritage Trail, nice new garden area's landscaped near my old house on Marine Drive and watched year after year the Heugh fall further and further into dis-repair.
Think that the fishing communities that use the piers need to raise their voices to try to stop the closure, and get some repairs done to make our sport safer.
