Hi,

Have fished Hilston/Tunstall recently without any success, have been using rag tipped with peeler 3 hours either side of high water.

Alot of crabs about which i think have a big part, wondering what other people were getting? and potential tips

Cheers

One of my favourite venues!

For summer, best bait is crab followed by squid. Squid can often outfish crab for the skate. Wouldn't bother with rag though really unless after flatties / schoolies.

3 hrs either side of high is when I fish there. Plenty of colour, medium to large tide and a flat sea is essential.

Usually use a 2/0 pulley pennel cast as far as I can with half a crab.

Get the conditions right and its a great skate venue with chance of hounds (had my PB hound there at 12lb). Usually a good gulley at the Hilston end which can throw up a few schoolies if there's a bit of surf.
