I cant seem to find a thread discussing this yet...
I do normally replace the treebles in my lures with singles, thats just like an habit for me, (as well as crushing its barbs). Today I received more decoy27's as my lure army is getting a bit bigger. However I have always seemed to have the same question: which hooks do I replace? The heads, bellys or tails? On a three hooks lure I remove permanently the heads and replace the bellys and tails; and on a two hooks, I would only replace the bellys and remove the tails.
How do you guys do yours? Does it need to be balanced or matter at all?(I gess so)

PD: my Molix 90's look a bit weird with its single bellys only : D

Thats right I think I read something similar somewhere else too. But I believe it has more to do with the weight of the treebles. I think I could always dress them with feathers or a bit of shrinking tube to equalise the weight..

My latest way on my latest lure lol, haven't tried it out fishing yet. I replaced the belly split ring with a South Bend "25lb" lure clip from AGM tackle, and replaced the rear treble with a Gamakatsu siwash single a size or two bigger than the original treble. Then put another lure clip and some pop-up foam point protectors on my new "spare" treble so it's ready to go straight on. I have added a tiny bit of weight by varnishing the lure mostly on it's belly to protect the "paintjob" but if I have any trouble with weighting I will just wind on a bit of cheap solder wire. :)

weight placement in lures is designed in but that doesn't mean a lure won't work well if weight is removed or added. When I started making topwaters I was surprised at the number of variations in weighting and placement that allows the lure to work well enough to catch. It takes a lot of experimentation to get it just how you want it, sometimes just 1g of difference (on a 7" pine topwater) in a certain place makes all the difference.

you'll have to experiment with every lure if you want to change to singles as each lure will be different but you can get lead strips and spots (Storm suspendots and suspendstrips) to stick on to lures to add weight, or you could just try wrapping the remaining hooks with some lead wire.
