Bradwell report week end 17th/18th July 2010-07-18
Following our trip on 13th July, when Tracemate came out with me, and we suffered another little hiccup in that the exhaust elbow/pipe joint parted company and blacked out Arthur our starboard engine, I spent a couple of days cleaning the soot from the engine and surrounding areas, and as the weather was crap for this week end all three of us spent Saturday putting things to rights again. On Saturday evening however the latest xc and wind guru was giving an almost doable forcast, SSW 10 KNOTS, now that needed no second bidding from us and Following a quick phone round Treeman, Jono, Peter and Steve were up for it so we met at the boat at 8am, the wind however was a good bit stronger than forecast. After a short council of war we decided to go for it. The mark was to be the same that had produced on the last three outings about an hour and a half East. The tide was ebbing to the East the wind was coming from the South West so you can imagine what it was like Orrible and then to rub salt in our wounds George our port engine began losing revs, we knew immediately what was wrong so we hove to, and replaced the pre filter on the fuel line, ten minutes and we were up and running again, and 20 minutes later we were on the mark.
Almost as soon as the baits went down there were fish on them and all through the tide Hound after Hound was brought back to the boat and released, nothing big 4/5 lbs maybe but they kept us busy. There were a couple worthy of a photo,
but in the main not worthy of a picture. As the tide eased the drop net went down and we collected about 20 Hermit crabs, they livened up the proceedings as the first trickle of the flood started, with more hounds running off with us, and when the crabs had all been used Squid was reverted to, which is a little slower to attract but does attract different species, Steve had this Bass, and Treeman claimed it knowing that Steve cannot be asked to deal with them.
The Big Steve went and dropped another Bass at the surface just out of reach of the landing net. He was not very happy!! Jono and Peter were quite happy getting lots of runs and hook ups with Hounds, and as the day wore on the water became a good bit more sociable. We knocked it on the head at about 4pm, and got back to the Marina about 5-30pm. A nice day despite the weather.
