I popped down for a couple of hours last night while the missus was out with the kids. Anyway, to cut a long-story short I took just a bass rod, a reel, couple of traces and sum black lug - (it's all I had and didn't have time to get anything else).

Anyway using a 3 hook flapper I managed to get a couple of schoolies about 20yds out, the biggest just under a 1lb. I fished all along Hove beach last year and had one 2lb bass all year so two (albeit small ones) was a right result.

I thought to myself that was it but then had a couple of taps on the rod and struck - well blow me down but it was a black bream. The first I have ever had from the shore at Hove (have had a couple from the Marina but, never the beach!). Sadly it wasn't table sized and was returned but, along with the two schoolies, it was a successful evening - and has wet my lips for the coming Summer months.

i fish hove regularly i have had a few black bream on the hotter calmer days. yesterday i had two eels and two schooly bass. I mostly use lug and catch fish more often than not.

.....hence my suprise, i thought there was a little bit too much swell and the water was not yet warm enough for black bream. Having said that, i have heard they have been taking them further down the coast in Newhaven. That being said, I was told that in the Tacklebox in Brighton Marina which always specialises in stories of the bumper catch that always seem to happen on the day before i had a p*ss poor session off the Marina wall!

I shall definitely try the beach a little more often. Congrats on your catch!

Best

Whereabouts on Hove beach were you fishing?

I won't give up exact location on site as I want to explore it a little more first to find out if it was luck or I have hit on a reasonable area. But past the King Alfred and towards Hove Deep Sea Anglers club should put you close in the right direction.

Regards
