I popped down for a couple of hours last night while the missus was out with the kids. Anyway, to cut a long-story short I took just a bass rod, a reel, couple of traces and sum black lug - (it's all I had and didn't have time to get anything else).
Anyway using a 3 hook flapper I managed to get a couple of schoolies about 20yds out, the biggest just under a 1lb. I fished all along Hove beach last year and had one 2lb bass all year so two (albeit small ones) was a right result.
I thought to myself that was it but then had a couple of taps on the rod and struck - well blow me down but it was a black bream. The first I have ever had from the shore at Hove (have had a couple from the Marina but, never the beach!). Sadly it wasn't table sized and was returned but, along with the two schoolies, it was a successful evening - and has wet my lips for the coming Summer months.
