Myself and baitman are travelling down to weymouth for a club trip aboard tiger lilly on saturday. Our steward will talk to skipper beforehand but i am getting inpatient.Anyone got any news on how the banks are fishing? also any localtips much appreciated.
Chris Caines is 10 times the angler I am.
He'll put you over the fish and show you how to set-up, how to feel a bite and also how to hook the fish.
Take 1/0 aberdeens, amnesia hook lengths, delta spoons, bullet leads of 1oz, normal leads from 2oz to 8oz, green and black beads.
Don't be afraid to put loads of beads on. The idea is to make them look like the tiny pea mussels the plaice are feeding on.
Also don't be afraid to rig your traces with pennel rigged hooks as this will help present the bait better.
Bait will be two or three good sized worms with a little wavy flag of squid.
Don't be frightened to try two hook rigs.
If youhave had a couple of Plaice and fancy a Turbot, change the hooks for 4/0's and put a sliver of mackerel on. No need for so many beads with the Turbot, but stil keep the bait on the bottom.
Thanks Tom, we had a day on the turbot last year with chris, you are right about him being a good skipper, very helpfull and a real pro, lets hope we get out on saturday , we are all in Banb overnight saturday, so it would be nice to give us something to celebrate in the town on saturday night.
Great days fishing on saturday, approx 25 black bream on boat up to 3lb8oz, 12 plaice up to 4lb 8oz ,another over 4lb and some others over 3lb. Thanks to chris for his help and effort, great skipper. By the way,new tiger lilly should be operational by next weekend.
