How long will live Lugworm last?

Hi everyone

Just a "quickie" question: If I ordered some live lugworm from the Fishing Tackle 4 U shop in Skeggy/Ingoldmells, how long will they stay alive, and indeed is it important that they stay alive? Do lugworm make effective bait once dead? :g:

Cheers

Sean.

IF you change their paper often and don't let it get soaking wet they can last 2 to 3 days in the fridge before they start to blow. as for using dead lug for bait i have found that it can be great bait for Dabs.
could try keeping them in salt water in the fridge. cover with about an inch of water and change daily.
Thanks guys.

I see a bit of conflicting advice here :)

Do I keep them wet (i.e. in salt water) or not wet (in paper)?

both work. but wrapping them is less hassle
I'd not put them in any water, with yellows you can get away with it, with blow lug you'll find they become all watery and seem nowhere as effective. Just wrap them in paper and put them in the fridge. 2-3 days is about all you'll get from them and apart from dabs and occasionally sole they're pretty duff (and stinky and nasty) once they've pegged it.
Also make sure you check them regularly cos once you have one dead one in there and 'blown' the rest follow pretty quickly. Better off wrapping them in smaller quantitys (10-20) rather than one big lump of 50 - 100 as if a couple do die you hopefully won't lose too many. After a couple of days of being wrapped they are usually a much better bait as they are less watery and stay on the hook better. I agree with Bootster I would not put them in the water as tanked worms never give me as much confidence as they are too wet. Hope this may be of some help.
I find that keeping them in a bucket of fresh sea water on a hot day when fishing keeps them more lively
You can always freeze them onto hook lengths too, they make a cracking bait which can be cast as hard as you like. There's a "how too" here http://eastangliaseaangling.blogspot.com/2006_12_01_archive.html
Thanks for the advice guys and for replying to what would seem to some like a stupid question :clap3:
