Heyup

An old and venerable colleague and myself ventured down Atherfield last night to a spot we had fished oft times
before and done well in the past - we were in situ and set up for around 1900

One of the aspects I Love about this mark is clean ground and it doesn't seem to detract from catching fish - I wasn't
bothered last night if I just bagged up on some pout for my freezer because to my mind its a killer bait for Rays but
I digress - when we went to wind in and check our baits 15 minutes later we lost three out of four sets of gear - I
also lost three quarters of a spool of 30lb Daiwa Tourno which hurt....actually it hurt quite literally as it whipped
the back of my hand leaving a weal, went to my tackle box to replace spool .........left them at home ..... doh
Ah well, short lobs it is then
Obligatory sunset shots.......

As darkness fell my Righthand rod went mental and the first fish of the night came in - woof, woof

Next cast - same thing

Handsome Devils, only there Mothers could truly love them ....... or perhaps not as they probably don't get
to see what comes out of their eggs...

My right hand rod went over a bit more violently than your average Dog and this certainly was no dog,I had
to give it line and played it very carefully,it felt as if I had another good Undulate on but I will never know as
for some reason, with the fish almost at my feet the 50lb snood snapped .......... not happy but cest la Guerre
as they say and back to the Dogs - this was the last piccy I could be arsed to take but it had comedy value
in that it was the smallest Dog I have ever caught and how it got a whole dirty squid in its gob baffles me

It was also very camera shy - there's a West Wight Open Comp tonight,I don't do comps but had I been in it
last night I am quietly confident I would have been in the Money - some of the Dogs were huge - 2lbs plus -
my venerable colleague took three for the pot - his wife makes a fish curry - I personally cant be arsed to skin
the blimmin things - this is what I had left on my reel after a twenty yard lob last night

I would have been in big trouble if a lunker had come to town - all things considering a good night - good company
we had the beach to ourselves - towards the end of the night what could only have been a fox screamed like a
Banshee and made me wonder if I had actually had a bowel movement in my rompers ........

Ciao

I suppose I had around 40 yards left - would have thought it was self explanatory looking at the reel - the red you can see is the metal
showing through after a twenty yard lob:doh:

They are Akios Scoras Sammy and I cant rate them highly enough - I use the Shuttle 656 as well which are the best Multipliers I have ever cast with

Peter - yeah mate - the storms we had must have exposed a reef out there - around 60 yards or so from
shore - but there is no need to put a bait out miles down there Peter - the fish come in close

Hey Craig

Believe me your old HSM,s were bouncing a treat last night mate - nothing to report that I have heard - when you come over I want to do

Chale - you will have to act as a Porter though :showoff:

There was a near seven pounder taken down near your spot in broad daylight a fortnight back Craig but other than that I have not heard

of anything special

Enjoyed that one brother.
Obligatory sunset shots were stunning, thanks. Doggies, yep enthusiastic bite, either grumpy or shy for photos though.
Cheers

Nice one Clive and, cos you weren't fishing with Nipper, not a reeking trouser cough in sight! Looking forward to our visit in June, though maybe not to catch that type of woofer.....

Cheers

Bring your waders Kev and we will give a certain spot some attention where I managed a 16lb+ Undulate last year - the tides are not
what I would pick but sure we will manage to winkle out something mate
