If you are insuring on a new for old basis then you need to get current cost of items. If done on current value get some prices from ebay.

I would insure it for £3000 personally. I keep my gear in the spare room though just be safe, although i find i spend more time 'playing' with it as its easier to get to. I think most would like to keep it in the house but its just HIDs who prevents it, fortunately i dont have that problem. I find that i clean my gear more often too though, if nothing else but to prevent my house smelling!

u need to go with an insurer who doesn't distinguish between sea and course fishing tackle. Sounds a bit absurd to me.
My insurance company has something called 'leisure items' which covers sports gear, fishing tackle etc.
I'd tell your insurers to pi$$ off and go to someone who provides the service you require
