Went for a lovely walk down the river to Newhaven today..

No fishing, just a nice walk. I was privaledged to see 2 Massive Seals basking on the mud flats by the Denton Docks...
But i wondered how it would be possible to flyfish the river...
The river is quite far below the path most ov the way down to Denton Island and the banks looked very muddy and slippery...
So, would you cast from the path (with the river approximately 6 feet below you with 15 feet to the water)
Or would you scramble down the bank nearer the water but with a 6 foot bank behind you?

The one thing I would check out before doing any fishing is whether you can walk through the mud. Remember the fire brigade that were called to man stuck in mud in the Adur? Always best to find path to water along the side of the mud if poss. It is usually okay next to walls, groynes etc.

Couldnt see any paths down to the water...
The mud was slippery but not boggy....
Yeah, roll casting might be the answer as im sure the grassy banks would grab the fly on the back cast...

Ill take my rod next time and see....
Thanx both.
