Hi People
Fished the ranges last night. I had geared up for a short but intense session (4-5 hours). Picked up 4 score of blacks and headed to the ranges, on the dymchurch end.
Grabbed fish and chips along the way, which went down very very well. Was the to be the only cod of the night? No it certainly was not!
Arrived on the beach at 6.30. The wind was quite strong but ok. However during the evening it was due to worsen which it did. I didnt do my usual long walk along the beach, instead i set up on one of the first few groynes. I got the first rod out, a single flowing trace size 2 hooks baited with lug. Then second rod out with a 1 up 1 down.
Last week for the first time I took some dabs home to eat, usually I don't eat fish but I have got with a new girl who loves it and has given me strict orders to catch as many edible fish as possible. What a result!! Anyway she cooked them up and they were amazing!! So I thought it would be nice to get a few more for the pan. A certain species did not allow for this.....
First cast was a codling of 31cm..... Second cast was a doggie of about 1lb..... It was looking like it was going to be a good session.....
Most casts were producing single and double shots of codling. Then around 9pm the water in front of me was becoming shallow and I know from previous fishing trips here that on big tides the fish move out a bit past the breakers in certain shallow areas along this stretch..... Unfortunately I had set up in one of these places!!! A quick walk along the beach and I found an area where I could walk out to the shore line and cast over the breakers.
I'm glad I made the move because the fishing picked up again, it was just constant codling after codling. Nothing sizeable but great fun. The biggest was 34cm. So so close to a keepable codling which is a target of mine for the year.
30+ codling
1 doggie
2 whiting
1 rockling
I didn't catch a single dab.... The codling wouldn't allow the baits to sit there long enough. Never thought I'd say that!! A good problem to have though haha. The codling seem to be getting bigger each week I go down that way..... Before last night my biggest of the year was 31cm...... Last night they were nearly all minimum 30cm and had really fat bellies which felt like they were stuffed with crab.
