christ i dont know where to start with this,it really has only just sunk in,after last weekends knee trembler with 10 7oz beauty andy(aprb66) was thirsty for a fish of his own ,he phoned me at work monday saying"you know you said you werent fishing this week"and proceeded to tell me he was going to a mark that i have been avoiding all summer due to the weed, but with the promise of a southwesterly i couldnt say no.
i arrived at about seven thirty and looked out on a near flat calm sea with the wind at my back(north northeasterly) and thought doh!
im here now might as well kill a few hours in good company and have a laugh with andy, everybody on the beach left as it got dark and andrew told me that he had missed a good run at low ,so my confidence was getting up.
we sat down with two good baits at medium range and watched as every crab in the uk ate away our bait supplies, nuts to this, i thought poxy crabs and eels,so i bought my squid in ,changed it for a heartier mackeral head and plopped it all of thirty feet out in the hope that it would be left alone,wrong..................................................one cup of coffee later saw me spring up off my seat to a rod tip that just "lifted",no slack line,no run, just a tiny little knock,i was instantly taken back to andys bass earlier in the year that just sat and tapped like an eel or a doggy,so i lifted up the rod and felt the lead pull free,i wound a little, the lead settled,it pulled free again so i struck, well all hell let loose as the fish swam toward the beach with me thinking i had lost her, only to turn ten feet out and power off 5or 6 times ,each time with me having to give line freely.
i told andrew this was a big fish and we would be lucky to see her because i could feel a distinct line rub off of something,he promptly waded out and freed the line and the fight was back on,she hit the beach at 930ish and left us both stunned,on the scales she went 13 4ozs ,quick piccies then off to put her back, i waded out knee deep but there was quite a drag back, she was snatched out of my hands and i watched as she went belly up,andy waded further and passed her back to me this time i didnt let her out of my grip until she was fully recovered and she powered off, phew!
i sat down and was left dazed by what had just happened, still humbled by all the kind words on my last post what would i say about this fish?when my rod went again an hour later it felt like another good fish, and when it pulled free,i wasnt remotely bothered,we gave it until 1 am and shot off home VERY happy bunnies:clap2::clap2::clap2:thanks again andrew for all your help in getting her in and safely back out mate!
im having a rest from the bass world for a few weeks and turning my attention to barbel, but you never know, craig
