7 of us ventured over to go out with Mary Gavin Hughes on her boat Shamrock 1 - for 5 days fishing.
We fished 2 days arround Newport in amongst the 365 small Islands and 3 days further afield near Clare Island and Achill Island.
There were 26 species caught during the week - with Davy Holt winning the species hunt - who says he is a skate specialist - he fished like an every-thing specialist !!!! :1a:
One day was spent shark fishing - with no result however we all caught lots of codling , ling, whiting and coalies whilst watching the floats !!!
The open sea was absolutely full of red gurnards and cuckoo wrasse in particular
The area round the Islands had loads of doggies - some decent size , thornies huss and a few congers
Common skate and tope sometimes appear - but not this week
I had a great week and would like to thank the guys for their support and company and Mary for being such a great skipper and commedienne !!!!
Norrie :wheelchai- did well catching Nemo the woolen fish 3 times and getting a double shot of a thornie and a can of Fanta - Mary being an expert at sneaking things onto your line:clap:
Oh and Mick got 3 seagulls - one a double shot !!!! :headhurt:

Pleased to hear you had an enjoyable trip Peter, looks like both sea and weather were kind to you. Fairly whets the appetite.

Excellent report Peter, looks like you had a good time and nice weather. You're making me home sick. I'm going over in October, I just might be fishing.

Oh and you forgot to mention the Sunfish :D

Nope she did fish with Paul Young targeting thornies in the bay, I don't know if she fished with matt though as I've never seen them together on telly

Thanks for the reminder Davy - the sunfish was amazing - after Davy spotted her Mary took the boat right to her and we were able to have a decent look - looked over 100Lb we etimated and posed for pictures before disappearing :bye1:
