I'm new to this sea fishing game and bought myself a couple of Fladen rods and reels. For my ability they are just fine. Maybe for some of you more experienced anglers they don't cut the mustard but I've not had any problems with them at all.
Plus, I could afford them without going without food for a fortnight.

When talking to people who have/had fladen reels (multi's) the most common comment is that they dont last as long as the more pricey brands.

As with most things, You get what you pay for.

Some of the rods are ok.

Hi everyone
i was wondering if fladen was good make of reel ?:bounce:
Simple answer: no. They are mainly budget models and tend to get sold a lot at shops where fishing gear is an afterthought and aimed at the tourist/occasional angler rather than serious fisherman IME. Their rods and some of their tackle is okay. I have a couple of their Beach Casters, so I'm not slating them as a company. There's plenty of good gear at reasonable prices out there so keep looking. "Buy Cheap, buy twice" is a good motto.
Are you after a fixed spool or multiplier for boat or shore?

i was told that fladen now had the patent to the old abu7000 and are going to/have started producing it..
is that a true tale....?
FLADEN are having some reels made that look like abu.s they are in their maximus range evidently they are made in the same factory as the abu,s main visual difference is that the side plates are oval internally they appear the same as the older abu.s with the bearings in the end plates rather than in the spool, the free spool button works the same as the older 7000 ie. a double click to reingage the spool instead of the instant reingaging of the newer abu,s
There are quite a few in the range 444, 555, 666, 777, in various colours with different no,s of bearings i have sold a few with out to much comeback as yet

Are the the same as abu,s? well i have used some of the fladen spares to repair abu,s will they last as long only time will tell but they are around half the price of abu,s

Agree with the majority of posts in that you get what you pay for.... but I do have Fladen kit that I'm extremely happy with - Besides the floatation suit I've got a carbon Boat Rod and a small spinning reel
They're both from their Maxximus Range and NOT what I would call cheap.
Love the reel Maxximus RD3000 it's a pleasure to use married up to my Greys G Series Spinning Rod.

i started off with fladen rods and reels, yeah they are cheap and got me started, i have upgraded all my kit over time and have to say i still use the fladen gear regulary and have had no problem with any of it, on a budget and starting out i would say that you wont go far wrong, just remember it is what it is.

I've got an 11ft Fladen ocean vantage 3oz spinning rod that i've had for a couple of years, and its great for makky bashing, (it can put a 3 oz weight out a fair old way too), and for £20 i cant fault it.. Marc..
