I owned a "john dory" for ten years and it was an exellant boat.
I too was initially concerned about the design of the splash well but can honestly say it never caused any problem at all in any sea conditions. Did sometimes take one over the back whilst launching into a swell but the more than adequate self draining soon took care of it.
Dont let this put you of owning an excellent fishing boat that handles well in all sea conditions with an amazingly smooth ride and minimum slamming.
i had one for some years dont know how i got rid of it
we had a Peace of hard wood that sloted in at back
and just removed when tillting engine
