I am very tempted to try my hand at fishing from a kayak.
Could someone who has some experience of this please let me have some info regarding what type of kayak would be best suited for estuary and close shore work,
Cheers Musket

type in fishing ski on yahoo and look for any sites that end with .co.za fishing skis are used quite a lot in south africa, you have a holder for the rod, and then paddle with it behind u, or u can ledger it instead with your legs hanging over the side - wasnt too keen on this due to the shark aspect tho!

any sites u find will give u quite a lot of info.

Strewth Musket, I have only just learned to fish, sort of, now you want me to paddle at the same time. Could you wait for a year or three.

if you are going to use an actual kayak, you need to use something that is stable, like an odysee. a starter boat would be best if you have not got a lot of exp but a starter kayak is not that easy to roll. the best ones for fishing i think are sit on tops

hi guys

ive recently been doing some research on this:

The owner of stormriders in weymouth, Terry was really helpful and has a lot of kayaks in stock.

He advised that the best for fishing was the "Caper"

Me and a friend plumped for a sport yak in the end based on cost and the fact that we want to get two of us in and just be able to ferry ourselves back from a few marks at high tide.

but just check out these loons in the states:

Hi Musket,

Why not give us a visit down at Extreme Products in Jersey Marine Swansea, or visit our website www.extremeproducts.net. We have a range of sit-on kayaks form Cobra Kayaks in the USA that would suit your first excursions into fishing of a kayak.

The Cobra explorer is our Best seller, its a very stable kayak, and ideal for fishing and general paddling.
