Having arranged an early start to the Easter hols, I decided on Hove shingle to see if the plaice were still playing today. Normal tactics, two hook loop rigs, with blow lug tipped with rag my choice offering, blasted as far as I could. A local chap called Don was having a mare with his reel and came over for a chat, and donated his wrap of black and a box of squid to my bait larder.

First cast resulted in a small plaice; so they were playing! It was mostly a fish a chuck after that. I ended up with nine plaice, four flounders, and my first schoolie of 2014 in just under four hours fishing up and over high tide. And not a ting or ling to spoil the pleasure of a very decent session in the sunshine. Thanks to Don for taking the first piccie.

Cracker jack day there and lovely pictures. Keep meaning to go to Hove. Tonto had a good look that way last year, the evening I went, the fun fair and associated idiots were about so I went to Shorhorroham and blanked ! Enjoyed the report.
Nice one

Excellent session there mate. I think I was fishing a bit to the West of you. I had 6 good sized Plaice in the last three hours up. Very good fishing and not an unmentionable or pin whiting in sight, happy days!

You really should Steve, it's such an underrated venue. Let me know if you decide to give it a go sometime.

Fantastic session mate, hove sounds like a diamond in the rough at the moment according to other local reports, whats the parking like down there please?, I think I might fill it in with black lug next week if I'm allowed! Rob

red herring for a superb report…that is how it is done sir !!

I think hove must be doing so well due to the excessive noise at the marina (& nets) while they are using those pile drivers for the new development…..well that's my excuse for doing really badly there yesterday !!! It does make sense though.

I park in the car park behind the King Alfred; it is £3 for maximum 4 hours. There is also meter parking on the main drag. You are not meant to return after the first four hours for a set period, but I have previously fed the meter without bother. I hope you get your string pulled!

Thanks for all the replies guys. It does seem Hove is the hot venue at present. I decided to try the Lancing end of Widewater today, and it was a completely different story. Fished three hours up to and just over high water, and all I managed was a few small flounders. The water clarity was excellent though; now where did I put that lure gear...
