Let's all pull together to get more people fishing

Over the past three years, working with other partners such as Get Hooked on Fishing, Canal and Rivers Trust and the Angling Trade Association, the Angling Trust has organised over 1,800 events across the country to encourage people to try fishing and introduced 47,000 adults and 30,000 juniors to the sport.Now Chief Executive Mark Lloyd has called on everyone involved in angling to support initiatives to get more people to try fishing.

Bass-a-day for rest of year

Sea anglers will be able to keep one bass per day caught recreationally until the end of this year. It follows months of campaigning by the Angling Trust to have the bass bag limit reinstated after a ban was imposed in January based on flawed scientific advice. Read more

The next Angling Trust Subscriber Members' AGM and the Fish Legal AGM will be held on Saturday, 17th November at West Midlands Golf Club & The Lake at Barston, Solihull, starting at 10am. Payouts for two clubs as Fish Legal sends out clear message to polluters

Two angling clubs affected by separate slurry pollutions have benefitted from being members of Fish Legal. Farmers responsible for polluting the Wellow Brook in Somerset and Willow Pool in Cheshire paid out a combined £35,000 in damages and costs last month following settlement of civil claims brought by Fish Legal. Water company taken to court

Fish Legal has started court proceedings against Anglian Water on behalf of its member the Cambridge Fish Preservation and Angling Society following the pollution of the River Cam which killed hundreds of fish, particularly large bream, on a previously renowned match venue. Full story


Fish Legal wins 'right to sue' case over Scottish Water river pollution


Funding will help us protect fish stocks

The Angling Trust has successfully applied for £250,000 funding from the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation to campaign over the next three years on high priority conservation issues affecting marine and freshwater fish. The grant will enable the Trust to expand its capacity to represent anglers on conservation issues at a time when many fish stocks are in decline and political uncertainty about environmental regulations and commercial fishing post-Brexit. An incredible match on the River Thames at Reading saw the top four anglers weigh in over 100lb and a new record weight for RiverFest. Winner Barry Chapman set a new high and booked a place in next month's final with a 156-14-0 catch of bream. Read more
