Here I am again guys and girls!
Spent the week looking for peelers and despite the beach being heaving with tourists disturbing all the crabs, leaving weed under rocks to rot and crushing crabs we actually did ok, saying that the best day for finding them we had was when we went in the rain and was the only idiots on the beach!
Armed with 40 peelers and the same again if not more in softies we was stocked up!
Ordered some worms from Anglers corner here in Hunstanton as trying to dig them with the amount of tourists about is impossible to A) find somewhere to dig and B) if you do find somewhere to dig your stopped every five minutes by people asking what your doing and/or giving you their fishing advice that would fit on the back of a postage stamp but takes an hour to explain!
Anyway worms collected, bait box loaded with the fresh still alive peelers, the frozen softies, a couple of blueys and some dirty squid hubby has the brainy idea to give the Suffolk coast a go!
We head off on the two and a bit hour trip, eldest stayed at home (surprise surprise) and the two girls came with us but not to fish!
We arrived at Alderburgh at about 8pm not knowing the area we decided to have a quick nosey at the beach first, hubby wasn't keen and decided to go a bit further and see what else was about. I decided to take some pictures of the shell sculpture on the beach in case we didn't go back there as gotta admit it looked pretty impressive!
We drove a bit further up to Alderburgh south beach, going along a one way street Sascha pipes up with "mum I'm sure that house we just passed is the grandpa in my pocket house" for those of you without children it's a children's program on the CBeebies channel both my girls have grown up watching since they were tiny!
We stopped in the car park and hubby wanders off to look at the beach, I decide to google filming locations for the previous mentioned program and it turns out she was spot on it actually was the house used in the filming!
An hour later hubby comes back to the car, he had not fell in the sea just got talking to others fishing who had informed him it was a bit poor and to try the dirty wall!
Before we could do that we had to take a walk back to the grandpa in my pocket house and get pictures, the girls were over the moon to actually see it in person!
Anyway back in the car and off we go again, another beach, off hubby goes to have a nosey me and Sascha waited in the car while he goes off with Trinity again they come back nearly an hour later, talking to someone else he had only caught a sole in several hours of being there and said to try Dunwich!
By this point I was pretty annoyed with spending more time in the car than fishing, after seeing a few good reports on various Facebook groups about Dunwich and rays coming out I put my foot down and said let's go there then, but no looking just get the gear out the car and get set up regardless!
So we finally arrive at our venue for the night, get set up just under the cliffs, the tides already topped by this point (10pm ish) 1 angler to our left packed up shortly after we arrived but there was still two more fishing to the right of us!
Casted out and realised pretty soon into the session the crabs were certainly hungry bait was being stripped crazily quick no matter what you was using or how much elastic you used grrrr
Hubby went and spoke to the guys fishing next to us they had, had a couple of rays and turned out they knew of us from my reports on here, so I popped over for a chat!
Both nice blokes and always nice to meet someone off the forum, couldn't tell you who they were as I'm useless with names and have completely forgotten who they were before I even left the beach let alone now, but if your reading this nice to meet you
We plodded on feeding the crabs, weed wasn't really a problem had a few bits but nothing to cause a problem the sea was flat and the weather was nice enough!
Hubby gets the first bite of the night. Turned out to be one of the hungry crabs!
On putting him back in the water I find a fish washed up, bigger than the normal white bait and I'm not sure what it was tbh (maybe someone can inform me?) the spikey fin on top made me think tiny bass but probably not!
Hubby manages another two fish, a small whiting, (seriously we drove all that way for a whiting grrrr) then just after sunrise the smallest bass any of us have ever caught!
He certainly wasn't a happy Bass tho and was trying to make up for his lack of size with big aggression!
I blanked completely, had really pinned my hopes on getting my first ray but it wasn't to be!
While contemplating if we should carry on or just pack up and go home we see and old man walking along the beach in his dressing gown!
Thinking this to be a bit strange but not really paying much attention we decided to have another couple of casts before calling it a day! Next thing you know Sascha's shouting us the old mans only stripped off and about to go in the sea right next to where we are fishing!
It's still really early in the morning and actually really bloody cold! After a few minutes of bobbing around in the waves he gets out, puts his dressing gown back on and wanders back up the beach!
By this point we are in stitches wondering how many times things like this can happen while we are fishing, just glad the youngest wasn't awake at this point as could gaurentee she wouldn't have kept very quiet about the fact he was completely naked!
We left about 10am Sunday and intended to have a sleep then go somewhere local that night to use up the bait but didn't end up waking up again till 7pm so decided to not bother!
We hit Holme Monday evening fished the tide up and back down again.
I blanked again....really not liking this blanking lark! But hubby blanked too, the sea looked perfect, so calm, weather was nice and warm but the weed was a complete nightmare!
So once the tide was gone again we decided to pack up and head home!
Not sure if we are out this weekend as the kids will probably be knackered after their first few days back at school but will keep you updated if we do decide to venture out!
Thanks for reading, hope you all have better luck than us on your next session!
