Hello All.
Maybe posting this in the wrong forum, apologies if so.
One of the lads at work is organizing a little company competition:clap2: There would be 12 of us fishing Hythe beach. Now one of the people involved has decided that we would need to apply for a license to fish this amount of people from Hythe council incase anyone gets injured!
I for one have never heard of this in 30 years of fishing.Or maybe I am wrong, does anyone know if we need this?
Regards,
Wicko.

licence? me for one would not part with a penny ,,bloody cheek, the councils get a nuff out of us as it is ,,and for what,,,,,,u pay ,,,,,,,,then they will think,,,ar this is a good one ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,will enforce it all the the time and possibly make it permanant,,,,,,,,,,,if we are darf enough to part with the ,,,,queens shilling
I have been fishing now for 55 years and if the day ever comes when I have to pay to fish Britain’s coastline I’ll simply throw my gear in the nearest skip. Go and enjoy and have a great days fishing.
Whatever you do don`t set a president (DONT EVEN THINK OF PAYING) == PAT
No, my understanding is that no 'license to fish' is required.

But anyone organising an event is liable for being sued if something bad happens, either to those taking part in the event or to the general public (flying leads etc).

So it's wise to ensure that you have insurance to cover that, and have at least carried out a formal risk assessment.

(That's why many clubs join the NFSA, so that they can buy insurance to cover matches and fish-ins at a reasonable cost, and many people join the NFSA as individual members, so that they are covered whenever they are fishing against third party claims, rather than have to sell their house!)

It may be that the Council requires some form of indemnity to cover anyone organising an 'event' within the borough.

There's also thin line in arranging to meet up with your 'mates', and arranging a fish-in which other anglers from the 'general public' can attend.

It's not until the writs start flying that people begin to realise that they could be in for trouble.

We have outings all the time at work and theres more than 12 of us... bowling, paintball, go kart, pitch n putt, none of which require going to teacher and asking if we can play.

You do not need the permission from any bloody busybody to go enjoy yourself. Get out and have some fun!

I was about to say that! :clap3:
Tell that to the judge if God forbid something does happen, and you caused it. Leons advice in this current world of compensation for anything is sound. Think it doesn't apply to you? don't think so.

NFSA membership...worth every penny!

It sounds like someone's confusing liability cover with a fishing licence. Whatever, it's too much red tape in my humble opinion.
