Afternoon Gents

I'm after some advice/ recommendations on what line to use to make pennel rigs from size 6/0 hooks for cod down to 2/0 for smaller species.
Will be mainly using the said rigs uptiding in the Humber.

What breaking strains do you use?

Anything from 30lb to 80lb but for uptiding in the humber 30lb & 40lb is all iv used if theres a chance of rays though i would up it to 60lb so its not so easy for them to grind through 80lb i use out of whitby sometimes heavier too because of the ling

Mono, The only time I use flouro is when im Mullet fishing , Plus flouro is at least twice the price of mono

Do you heat shrink on the top hook? If so what do you shrink it with, boiling water or heat gun?
I can do it either way but was wondering is one of the ways detrimental to the mono?

Try using silicone tubing or insulation tape on the pennels, then no risk of over heating the line,

Steam from the kettle if you use shrink i use telephone wire much better for moving around just twist when you want to move then twist the other way to tighten up no line damage then

Also what type of knot do you use on the heavier line.
I've been using a Uni knot on the 30lb line to hook & swivels & a Albright for my braid to mono.

i use 50lb bodies, with 40lb snoods,for 3/0 hooks, and if not power casting , 20lb bodies with 8lb snoods, smaller hooks....

Also from your shock leader to rig?
