Well, I am very much a shore angler but on the very odd ocassion I venture onto the water.

Steamed out to the Kingmere rocks to fish for black bream. The sea was like a sheet of glass, the sun was shining and there wasn't a breath of wind. We anchored up and all 6 of us were into fish virtually straight away! After a hectic couple of hours we moved off the rocks to the open ground to try for a ray or a hound. My mate bagged a small thornie around 4lb and another guy had a small hound around 4lb. A few dogs showed also, along with a sprinkling of pout, gars and wrasse. Then the bream decided to feed again and we had another hectic 90 minutes or so before we lost them. Moving back onto the rocks we continued to bag more decent bream until we ran out of time and bait!

Result:

We boated over 70 black bream, the biggest weighing in at 4lb 7oz. Many were over 3lb with a good average of 2.5lb. The skipper was quite surprised that the fishing was actually as good as it was, as the tide was a small neap. Best bait by far was squid. A few biggies fell to frozen mackeral as did the hound, and the wrasse came to crab.

All in all a superb day out! I will be booking my place on the next trip! :)

Kingsmere is the first place on my list to visit once the boat is moored at Newhaven next month. I have caught the odd Black Bream but never targetted them but intend to do that this year a couple of times.
Nice result DSD:clap3:

You only need a size 1 or 1/0 on a running ledger cast downtide. Custing uptide or across tide results in loss of tackle! A floating bead or normal hi vis bead tended to get results more quickly.

P.S. Pick me up on the way over! ;)

"Dick". That's all I know him as!! Charter boat. He does a bit of potting aswell.

Not sure of the name of the boat; don't think it had one, just a load of numbers and letters! He is registered though!

Try to get a grapnal anchor welded up out of rebar and some old rope and chain for down there.
Lost anchor, chain and rope there last year even though it was set to trip.
Also a friend had his rope cut and lost his ground tackle, the rope must have gone over a pinnicle of rock and sliced it clean.
Some really interesting ground on the reef. Good Bass spot as well.

A 5lb bream from there 2 years ago

Hope the Bream were catch and release
too many are getting slaughtered when in abundance
only keep enough that you can eat, return the rest, They are great sport on light gear so put those not required for the pot back

Kept some, returned some. I had four people who wanted some....I gave them two each. Tried to put some of the females back.
