Daiwa st 6000t , arguably one of the best fix spool reels out there. Second hand ones go for a lot of money so that tells you a lot . New there £250 , lot of money but quality never comes cheap. was going to mention the shimano tec but chukka beat me to it. Think there a bout £400. and the magnesium one is dearer .
Ultegra or Aero Technium better casting reels than the penns. The Penn surfblaster suffers with bail arm closure the shimanos have a a bail lock, just open the bail arm and rotate. You can get the Shimano ultegra for just over a ton and it's a no brainer
Think it's horses for courses. I use a Surfblaster and an Ultegra. I prefer the Ultegra because I've had it longer and I'm totally comfortable with it but the Penn is proving itself too.

I never knew my surfblaster didn't have an auto bailarm closure, as I always close it manually anyway on all my reels.
I also always cast with the handle pointing down (away), because I both cast and reel in using my left hand (weird, I know), so it needs to be well out of the way of my wrist. It doesn't turn by itself during the cast/release in this position.
I get the drop correct (to my liking) by pulling line off the spool against the (always loose) drag, and use a Breakaway Cannon so I don't slice my finger off.
