Hi lads my stepdads got a 13ft Orkney spinner he's going to put an engine on to muck about in the river bassing, think he's going for around a 8hp but does anyone know if he will need a short or long shaft transom is 17 inch but not sure if you have to take keel into consideration if so it would be around 24 inches thanks stu

Longshaft - meant for a 20" transom - but don't worry too much about the keel, on a displacement boat shaft length is not critical.

Yep you will need a long shaft engine, which is probably just as well as short shaft engines are not easy to find.
