Hi norwayheads. Please please can anyone clarify the weight limit you are allowed to take r/e luggage. will be flying from Gatwick to Tromso. I believe the permitted amount is 30 kilos (including 10 kilos) of hand luggage. We have pre booked our rods as Ski equipment (all in one big tube) so that does not count. Last time out in 2008 i think 40 kilo was the limit. Ok Ok it says 1 case(20 kilo) and hand luggage(10 kilo) on the flight ticket But am getting grief from the other guys in my crew. Can anyone confirm the details please.:banghead::wallbash::ahhh::ahhh::help:

Hi Nick,

I think you are travelling with Norweigan Airlines (as Gatwick to Tromso) and I believe they have a higher limit than SAS (who I travelled with). SAS's limits were 8 kilo's hand luggage and 20 kilo's for your case.
May be worth a quick look on their website.

Hi Nick,
I am one of the Havnnes party that recently returned and we flew Norwegian airways.
They allow 2 x pieces of booked in luggage that are not to exceed 20 kg each plus a carry on piece of luggage not to exceed 10 KG

Below is link to Norway air luggage policies.

Hope this is helpful and you have a great time.... we did!

Hello Nick,
what was said before is right, 2 x 20kg checked in cases, and 10 kg for hand luggage. The limit for the rods is 15kg so this totals 65kg. However they also say on their website that the total allowed per person, with no exceptions, is 60kg.
Personally I stuffed the rod tube with old hand towels and some thermals, and this weighed about 7kg, and this stopped them rattling around too much. I stuck a padlock on my team seatbox and filled it with tackle and bait, l then had a large case with all my food and clothes in. With the laptop in the hand luggage.
I must of looked a picture walking through the airport with all that!
Hope you have a great trip

As stated already, with Norwegian air you can pre-book two pieces of check in baggage 20kg each, plus rod tube and 10kg of hand baggage.
Sean (n4lly) and I are mainly shore fishing but may hire a boat for a day or two depending on how it goes. This is an exploratory trip to a new area for me, to gain info and experience for a futre trip, but may have the help of a local guide if he can spare the time.
Will post a report of the trip on our return.

Please find a factual account of baggage allowance, have just returned from Soroya , Finn mark yesterday.:fishing1:

On Norwegian airlines I took the following ,

1 X20 kg suitcase this is allowed as part of your luggage

1 x cabin luggage bag 56cm x 45cm x 26cm. this is the maximum dimensions, official weight is a maximum of 10 kg but was never put on the scales, so you could put it up.

I took a rod tube weighing 14.7kg. maximum 15 kg Paid £10 out and 100 Nok on the journey back.
Shared this with a friend, so 8 rods in total and 5 reels.

16 of us went and returned and this is how it is.
My suitcase weighed 22.6kg on return, but Tromso did not worry about the access, but a friend of mines bag weighed 25.6 kg on the way out and had to pay £36 excess luggage.
As a tip do not put any lead lures in your hand baggage, :nono:they let all of us on the plane, but each bag was searched. Some of the party did take reels in the hand luggage but the line was removed.

I will give a full report soon, but as a taster, the party of 16 people and one 70lb Cod a few 50lb plus Cod, several 40lb Cod several 30lb Cod, Countless 20lb fish. Coalfish up to 25lb , and I had a 90lb plus Halibut.

If you want to save weight in your luggage, throw out your Pirks, the majority of my fish fell to dead bait, or 4 or 6 inch Sidwinders white and pink seemed to work well!

Full report when I catch up with work matters!:fishing1:

Maybe not Shaun But 2 sacks of spuds do.
Spuds are a no no for taking to norway, it's one of the few banned items on the grub list. I think you can take 10 kilos of meat but you wont need that with all the fish you will catch.

And as for baggage fcarpenter is spot on for luggage weights my 2 checked bags were 26k and 21k, plus a 15kilo rod tube they pontificated on wether to charge me excess but my cheeky smile got me outa that one. Good old Norwegian airlines.
